Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) is an incredible service initiated by the NHS. The service allows your GP surgery to send your prescription(s) electronically to your nominated pharmacy. This means you no longer have to carry a paper copy of your prescription. As the prescription is sent by your GP surgery through the internet, you do not need to visit your GP surgery and collect the prescription in person.
EPS or Repeat Prescriptions
This NHS initiated service is particularly useful for those patients who have a stable, chronic condition that requires a repeat prescription. Repeat prescriptions are usually issued to patients with long-standing health conditions, which may range from heart disease to diabetes to arthritis to psychological illnesses.
In England, it is estimated that more than 15 million people have chronic health conditions. If you are one of them, the EPS could be useful to you.
Remember, you can use the Electronic Prescription Service only if you have a stable condition and collect your medicine from the same pharmacy at all times. You can use this service if you find it difficult to pay regular visits to your GP surgery for paper prescriptions.
The EPS or repeat prescription service is not suitable for those who do not get prescription very often or collect their medications from different pharmacies.
Why should I use EPS?
Shifting from conventional prescription service to the new Electronic Prescription Service will bring you the following benefits:
- you will save time
- you will save money
- you will save your effort
- you pay less number of visits to your GP surgery
- you can get your medicines right to your home for free
- You can get started with the Electronic Prescription Service by choosing, or nominating, the place you would like to have your repeat prescriptions sent to. The place could be a local or online pharmacy such as PharmacyOutlet, a dispensing appliance contractor, or a dispensing GP surgery.
Are you still uncertain whether the Electronic Prescription Service is right for you? Call 03333 222 400 and ask your pharmacist. If you would like to nominate PharmacyOutlet, just go to the website and complete the online registration form.
