Explaining the NHS Electronic Prescription Service

PO46

The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) is one of the most beneficial services that help your GP surgery to send your prescription electronically to the place you prefer to collect your regular medication – without the requirement for a paper prescription.

There is less or no need for people with repeat prescriptions to visit their GP to collect a paper prescription on using the EPS.

How does EPS work?

If you want your GP to send your prescription online, it is essential that you select a place from where you want to get your medicine. The place could be a chemist, a dispensing appliance contractor, or a GP surgery.

The nomination process is quite similar to the prescription collection service where the chemist is able to collect your prescription on the behalf of you instead of making you visit your GP to collect a paper script. The difference here is that the prescription will be sent with the help of internet.

You can select a pharmacy that is convenient to where you live or work. For extra convenience, you can choose an online pharmacy that will be able to collect your prescription online from your doctor and deliver your medication to your UK address.

Will I be able to use EPS?

Different GP practices and pharmacies will offer the second stage of the Electronic Prescription Service at different times. Please note that your prescription cannot be sent electronically until your GP offers the service. Your GP will inform you when to use the electronic prescription service.

The electronic prescription service is reliable, safe, secure and confidential. Your GP, your nominate pharmacy and NHS can view your prescription online.

Pharmacy Outlet is one of the UK’s registered online pharmacies that can be nominated for availing the benefits of the NHS Electronic Prescription Service. It is owned and operated by the Pharmacentric Limited, which is situated at  40 London Road, Blackwater, Camberley, Surrey GU17 9AA. For more information, call 03333 222 400.
